How to Find Affordable Health Insurance in the State of Oregon

Oregon Affordable Health InsuranceLow-income residents in the state of Oregon can apply for health insurance coverage through the Oregon Health Plan (Medicaid). It includes the Oregon Health Plan for uninsured adults, and the Healthy Kids program for uninsured children under 19.

Oregon Health Plan for adults covers one year of medical expenses that include medical services, mental health care, substance abuse treatment, and emergency dental services. Income limits apply. Healthy Kids also pays for one year of health insurance for children under 19 and is renewable. Low-income and middle-income families can qualify for coverage that is either free or at a low cost.

The Family Health Insurance Assistance Program (FHIAP) helps low-income families pay for premiums, deductibles and co-payments that are not covered by their employer-sponsored health insurance programs. Federal Poverty Level guidelines apply that range from 50% to 95% of FPL.

Oregon Health Plan Plus provides health insurance for low-income elderly (65 and older), pregnant women, disabled, and children under 19 whose incomes are at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). It includes the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) offering free medical coverage for children under 19.

There are also Medicare programs which offer cost-sharing medical insurance coverage for low-income residents of Oregon for people 65 or older and those with disabilities. And there is help for anyone who has been rejected health insurance due to pre-existing conditions through the Oregon Medical Insurance Pool and the Federal Medical Insurance Pool.
