How to Find Affordable Health Insurance in the State of Nevada

Nevada Affordable Health InsuranceResidents of the state of Nevada with low incomes can find help for medical coverage through the Department of Health and Human Services. Several programs are available to ensure low-income individuals and families receive health care coverage.

Medicaid offers no-cost or low-cost medical benefit for a wide range of low-income residents, including families with children under 19, people 65 and older, those who are blind or disabled, and pregnant women. Uninsured children below 18 and pregnant women may also qualify for benefits through the Child Health Assurance Program (CHAP). Income limits are below 133% of Federal Poverty Level (FPL) for pregnant women, children under six and unborn children, and below 100% of FPL for children age six and older.

The state of Nevada also has the Children's Health Insurance Program for uninsured children from low-income families who do not qualify for Medicaid. The program offers full medical coverage at an affordable price.

Medical assistance for the aged, blind and disabled is also offered through Medicaid's MAABD program. Those eligible include people who qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), those age 16-64 who are employed and disabled with incomes not exceeding 250% of FPL, people in nursing homes with incomes up to 300% of SSI payments, and disabled children.

Medicare, funded by both state and federal government, has five different programs that pay for Medicare premiums, co-payments and deductibles on covered services. In order to qualify for these payments, residents must have income levels ranging from 100% up to 200% of FPL, depending on the program.
