How to Find Affordable Health Insurance in the State of Montana

Montana Affordable Health InsuranceLow-income residents in Montana can find a wide variety of affordable health insurance programs through the Department of Public Health and Human Services.

Medicaid funded by both state and federal governments are available for children, pregnant women, people 65 or older, blind, and disabled who are all eligible for full medical coverage, and adults with children under 19 and women with cervical or breast cancer who are eligible for Basic Medicaid coverage which excludes vision and dental.

Healthy Montana Kids is a program for uninsured children up to age 19 at no charge or at a low cost. Income limits apply. A family of four, for example, must have household income at or below $57,625 in order to qualify. It provides full medical coverage including prescriptions, dental and vision.

Medicare Savings Program has three plan levels that provide specific medical benefits; each plan has its own criteria on income limitations and the benefits provided. Qualified Medicare Beneficiary pays for hospital and medical premiums, and deductibles and co-payments, Special Low-income Medicare Beneficiary pays Medicare Part A premiums, and Qualifying Individual pays for Medicare Part B premiums. Prescription drug co-payments are limited to $1-$5 under these programs.
