How to Find Affordable Health Insurance in the State of Indiana

Indiana Affordable Health InsuranceWhen looking for affordable health insurance and healthcare options in the state of Indiana, Hoosier Healthwise (HHW) is the place to look.

Many options are available through Indiana's Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA). These programs are designed to help low-income families, pregnant women and children up to age 19. It is Indiana's Medicaid program, and income limitations apply.

Five different levels of coverage are available (A, B, C and E) in order to meet the needs and affordable level for most citizens of Indiana. Plan A a full-service package. Plan B is for pregnant women. Plan C is the Children's Health Insurance Plan (CHIP) program, and Plan E is the emergency-only program. Hoosier Healthwise attempts to provide a wide variety of options to meet most everyone's needs.

Care Select is an option for people with special health care needs, such as diabetes, congestive heart failure, asthma, mental illness or depression. Medicaid for Employees with Disabilities (M.E.D Works is Indiana's health insurance program for people who are able to work but have disabilities. It enables them to continue working without losing their health care coverage. Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) covers those who earn up to $44,000 for a family of four, for example, been without insurance for six months, and cannot obtain insurance through their employer.

Extra Help is a medical program for low-income citizens who cannot pay for their Medicare prescriptions. Income qualifications apply. A single person, for example, would need to have annual income limited to $16,355.
