How to Find Affordable Health Insurance in the State of Delaware

Delaware Affordable Health InsuranceThe Delaware Healthy Children Program is offered to low-income families to provide affordable health coverage for children who have no insurance.

The Division of Medicaid & Medical Assistance has programs for low-income families and those with disabilities. The Diamond State Health Plan - Plus is available for the elderly and disabled and provides long-term care services. Four incomes levels will be considered - 100%, 120%, 135% and 200% - of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) to determine the amount of benefits.

In addition, the Delaware Healthy Children Program establishes low premium costs for low-income families based on three different income range guidelines ranging from 100% to 200% of FPL, with premiums as low as $10.

Medicaid ensures low-income families that they will be able to pay for medical services. Medicaid covers the elderly, disabled and blind and includes medical services like hospital care and doctor office calls, prescription drugs, and mental health and substance abuse services.

For those who need help paying for their prescription drugs, there is the Delaware Prescription Assistance Program (DPAP) for the elderly and disabled. To qualify, individuals and families must have incomes limited at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. They must have no prescription insurance outside Medicare Part D. They also qualify if they have prescriptions that total more than 40% of their income.
